Hugging this character: You can try but, warm and friendly as she is, she’s not really all that huggy unless she knows you a little first.

Kissing this character: Sure! A surprise kiss could listen to interesting situations and interactions. (And I don’t mean sexually.)

Fighting with this character: Oh my god, yes! She’s a scrappy little street brawler, could be lots of fun!

Injuring this character: I’d love to discuss the injuries beforehand, but I am a fan of putting my characters through pain, so yes.

Killing this character: Let’s discuss it!

Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Mind reading, yes! Mind control? Run it by me first. :)

History

Helena Wayne was born to Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle Wayne. The daughter of a wonderfully wealthy family, she was also the daughter of two of the world’s greatest heroes (called ‘wonders’ on her specific Earth.) From a young age, she was all too aware that her parents were Batman and Catwoman, and wanting to get into the family business, they started training. Selina encouraged Helena from an early age to foster her talents, while Bruce seemed a little reluctant. But her perseverance - or her stubbornness - won out and soon, Helena was training for three hours a day, seven days a week, learning all she could under the tutelage of her parents.

Finally, one day, when Helena was in her mid-teens and had easily clocked in over ten thousand hours of training, Selina took her daughter out on a jaunt, to test her out in the field. Bruce was out of town, working on fighting a world threat with the Eight Wonders of the World (Helena’s world’s analogue to the Justice League.) Debuting herself as Robin - inspired by Robin Hood - Helena easily dispatched two thugs and saved a woman’s life, making her mother proud. Bruce, though, wasn’t as happy once he’d discovered what happened. Selina talked him out of his anger, though, and Helena continued her training.

She wouldn’t be Robin again until a few weeks later, when Selina was killed while out on a mission that had gone horribly awry. Too angry to be afraid, Helena infiltrated the scene of the crime, intent on bringing down those who had killed her mother. That was when she first met Supergirl, who she became very fast friends with.

Later, she officially started working with her father as Robin, working through her mother’s casebook to finish the cases that remained open due to Selina’s death. She also teamed up with Supergirl on occasion. One of their first cases together was one in which Supergirl and Robin were on the trail of a mysterious wonder who caused an explosion that had killed Supergirl’s love interest. It was then that they came across Wonder Woman’s daughter, Fury, and battled her to a near standstill before Wonder Woman intercepted them, causing Fury to escape without Supergirl or Robin being able to bring her to justice for her crimes.

Presentation:

Helena presents herself as a smart, accomplished, and tough-skinned young woman. Born into one of Gotham City’s most distinguished families, she’s used to a life of high society parties and fundraisers, and being the center of attention of gossip sites and the like. Though young, she knows a little bit about trying to work a crowd in her favour, having learned to do so from her parents - especially Selina, who never let the fact that she wasn’t from that society get in the way of her being able to mingle in it. She’s smart and knows that she’s going to need popularity to help her win. (After all, given what popular heroes her parents were, this was one of the first lessons she learned.)

She’s warm, friendly, outgoing, and willing to help out where she can. This is evidenced by how she jumps to Supergirl’s aid as soon as something’s gone on that Supergirl herself can’t handle. (Keep in mind that Supergirl has all the superpowers ever, and Helena’s just a regular, baseline human.) She doesn’t worry about the consequences; just the fact that her friend needs her is all it takes for her to use her smarts to help Supergirl figure out who was behind the death of her love interest.

She also tends to come across as very fearless, ready to leap into danger. There’s a derring-do quality to Helena, and a lot of this has to do with the fact that she’s grown-up watching her parents have that same fearlessness when facing any obstacle. Because of this, as seen in World’s Finest #0, she won’t hesitate to rush into a dangerous situation if she feels that such an action is warranted.

Her fearless attitude doesn’t come off as jaded, though. Helena’s still only a teenager, and she’s only been Robin for a little while. There’s a naiveté there that tends to come out when she’s out in the field - little things surprise her, like when she discovered there was a brothel in the middle of one of Gotham City’s best neighborhoods. She still has a certain sense of faith in humanity, and doesn’t necessarily always see the grey shades that make up the world. She also tends to be quippy when she’s in the middle of a fight, but that can’t be helped. She’s a wonder, after all.

Motivations

Helena is the daughter of two of the world’s greatest heroes. It’s been implied in Worlds’ Finest Annual #1 that Selina, Helena’s mother, had a cat’s nine lives (in the literal, mystical sense of having nine lives) and that she was a metahuman of sorts. Helena, on the other hand, has nothing of her mother’s powers. She states as much when she says that her nickname - “Girl Wonder” - has an emphasis on the girl part, not the wonder. Because of this, internally, Helena’s always felt this need to prove herself - to show that she’s as good as those who have powers or more training than she does. She’s had to give herself a harder edge because she doesn’t have those special gifts that her parents had. (It’s been surmised that Bruce may or may not have a special gift as well, though that’s probably just a joke at the fact that he tends to know everything.)  The fact that Selina is dead, though, has really pushed Helena to be the best she can be - and to live up to her mother’s legacy. If anything, she wants to make her mother proud, even in death. This is seen when Helena steps out in costume with Bruce for one of the first times and, after she’s finished beating up a couple of bad guys, she asks her dad if she was as good as her mom when he compliments her.

Helena is her mother’s daughter, through and through. Bruce has remarked as much when Helena’s sprung into action. While Helena externally presents herself as a fearless, fun, hit-me-with-your-best-shot type of hero, internally, there’s a lot more struggle going on. She’s impulsive, and she thinks she’s trained a little bit more than she actually has. Sure, she’s logged a lot of hours learning how to get out of traps and building up her strength, but she wasn’t trained to be careful enough. Due to this, Helena does leap before she thinks.  She’s also just the slightest bit vicious when she fights. (She was, after all, mostly trained by Catwoman.)

While technically a sidekick, Helena has quite the fierce independent streak. It’s not in her nature to wait around and do nothing, not when she knows that there’s something that she can do to help. More often than not, this spurs her into taking action, even when action’s not advisable. She’s ruled by her emotions that way and those emotions take control in a way that her other mental faculties sometimes won’t, such as when she raced to track down her mother’s killers. While her father held back, Helena surged forward into the building, acting on emotions and instincts.

Setting:

Helena wasn’t raised to kill. It’s not that she can’t do it, but she wasn’t raised to. She’s used to a good amount of violence, but the only dead body she’s really come across was her mother’s. Having said that, though, Helena isn’t afraid to maim someone if she has to. There’s been instances where she’s in a fight where the first thing she’s done to disarm her opponents is to throw knives through their hands so that they can’t hold weapons or fight back. She’s not against using brute force to come out the victor if she has to.

At first, being asked to kill will definitely mess with Helena a little bit. She will try to maim and hurt as much as possible, disarming her foes to the best of her ability without having to kill them directly. (That said, if other circumstances kill them, well, it wasn’t technically at her hand.) In the beginning, she’d probably try to team up with people, and help out those who she thinks is less fortunate and could use the people. (Will this work out well for her? Probably not.) But as she grows into the game, she’s slowly someone who will adapt, and learn the rules…and possibly learn how to bend them. After all, she’s generally not someone to always do what she’s told. Figuratively speaking, there’s too much cat in her for that.

Above all, Helena has been taught to survive. (That’s one of the first things you’d have to learn growing up in Gotham City - even Helena’s Gotham City, which tends to maybe be not as dark as other iterations of the place.) That means that she’s been taught to blend in with people when she has to, so if she ever needs to team up with people she doesn’t necessarily want to, Helena would be able to do that and then deftly go against them when the situation warranted it.

First Person Thread

[She wakes with a start. The last thing she remembers is someone with a makeshift crowbar, a glint in their eye as they gleefully bash her head in, sharp side towards her. Then everything had blackened out. Until now.]

Mom?

[Of course that’s her first thought. She’s dead, isn’t she? Finally reunited with her mother? But, no. A survey of the room proves this isn’t the case. She’s still here, in Panem, but any wounds she’d gotten were gone, taken care of.]

[She swings her legs over the edge of the bed that she’s been laid up on and stares directly at the device as flashes of the battle start an instant replay in her mind. Inwardly, Helena cringes, but she doesn’t let it show on her face. Much. There’s a haunted look in her eyes for a moment. How could there not be? For as long as she’s trained, she’d promised never to kill. And she hasn’t killed, not this time. But there were moments where she came so close to doing that, moments where she had to hold back and just maim someone, causing them to lose a limb or something. She shudders and tilts her head at the camera. That’s right. This is a show. They want a show. And if Helena wants to win, if she wants to go home, she needs to play according to the rules.]

Wow. So…that’s death.

[A languid, almost cocky smile works its way over her lips, reaching her eyes, but just barely.]

I wondered what all the fuss was about. I mean. Dying, coming back to life. It’s all standard, rote stuff back home.

[Except for where her Mom didn’t come back to life. But we’re nothing thinking about that right now.]

It kind of tickles, really.

[The way a buzz saw hacking away at your limbs would tickle.]

This is what my mom would have called a learning moment. I made some mistakes, a few miscalculations, and I probably should have been a little bit sneakier than I was. But that’s okay. It just means I know better for next time.

Prose

Helena stared at the panel ahead of her. This felt eerily like having her father watch her train, asking her to do various exercises to see where she’d reached in her training, how ready she was to hit the streets of Gotham.

Only that hadn’t quite been the life or death situation that this had been. After all, back then, she’d had her dad’s cape and her mom’s claws protecting her. This was something different altogether.

Her eyes - so much like her father’s - swept over the weaponry they had assembled for her. Swords, battle-staves, bows and arrows, a bullwhip, throwing knives, and some weapons that Helena was a little unfamiliar with. She hovered over the bullwhip for a moment, thinking fondly of her mother, before reaching for the throwing knives. She could use them both as distance weapons and up close in combat if she needed to. That made them the perfect choice for this exercise.

She looked up at the Gamemakers. Some were watching her with vested interested. Some were bored. One was picking her nose, while another touched up the rouge on his cheeks. Another leered at her, almost as though she didn’t believe that Helena would be able to live up to the obstacles they had set up for her.

She raised an eyebrow. Never, ever challenge Selina Wayne’s daughter.

It was an easy enough obstacle, except for the puppets the jumped out with weapons. But Helena was quick, well-trained, and tough. Knives were thrown and retrieved - dummies were maimed and disarmed, but not “killed.” Helena wasn’t ready for that. She followed her mother's words of advice as much as possible - "If a mouse bolts into a hole, follow. But take the lead." Those, combined with her father's words of advice, to always assume that any door was a deathtrap, helped. She was careful, and where she could, Helena took the lead, leaping over where she instinctually thought a dummy would be, and taking it out before it had a chance to register she was there. Sure, she missed some. Sure, one almost got the drop on her. But for the most part? Helena was the victor.

By the time she’d finished, she was covered in a thin sheen of sweat. She stared up at the Gamesmasters, pleased with herself for finishing in the manner that she had, but knowing full well that they may not have been at pleased.

Well, at least that one woman had stopped leering.

What is your character scored:

I’d put Helena at a seven.

She’s at peak human condition, having worked hard at a training regimen implemented by her mother.

When it comes to fighting, Helena is infinitely more a street brawler than she is a skilled martial artist. This is due to her parents working more on other aspects of her training rather than just her fighting skills. She’s a good markswoman when it comes to using projectile weapons, but she’s never used a gun in her life, and she hasn’t really trained with bows or crossbows as yet.

Helena is a skilled investigator, and incredibly stealthy. She’s able to sneak into most high security places to gather whatever information she wishes to, though she does need to know the sort of security she’s going to tangle with first, unless it’s something fairly simple that she’s already worked with.
